*Visa Information

Visa-Free Entry

South Korea maintains visa waiver agreements with numerous countries. Travelers who meet the following requirements may enter without a visa:

• The purpose of the visit is tourism or a short-term stay (within 90 days)
• The traveler is from a visa-exempt country
• The traveler must have approved K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization)

Examples: Citizens of the United States, Canada, most European countries, Japan, Taiwan, and others may enter South Korea without a visa for up to 90 days with an approved K-ETA.

What is K-ETA

Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) : An online travel authorization that requires travelers from visa-exempt countries to obtain electronic travel approval before entering South Korea.
• Most nationals of visa-exempt countries must apply for K-ETA through the official website or mobile app before they enter Korea.
• Approval usually takes between 24 to 72 hours.

When a Visa is Required

You must obtain a visa in the following cases:

1. If you are not from a visa-exempt country (e.g., China, the Philippines, Vietnam, and most Southeast Asian and African countries)
2. If you plan to stay in Korea for more than 90 days
3. Your visit is for a special purpose such as employment, study, marriage, or journalism

Examples of Visa Types

  • C-3 Visa

    Short-term visit (tourism, visiting relatives, attending meetings, etc. for up to 90 days)

  • D-2 Visa

    Study abroad (for academic programs)

  • E-2 Visa

    English conversation instructor

  • F-6 Visa

    Marriage migrant (for those married to a Korean national)
